An end to Collioure

CHAPTER 11

All good things come to an end, as they say, and our time in Collioure was one of them.  We spent Jossie’s last day with us getting enjoyably lost in the streets of Toulouse, a town we could definitely spend more time exploring.  She flew back to Berlin to continue her adventures in international schooling, and we headed “home” for one final day in our adopted French hometown. Ever since we arrived in Collioure, I had been itching to take a glimpse inside the Château Royal, which sounds quaint but in reality is a massive citadel that dominates the harbor and town. It didn’t disappoint. Kacey and the boys opted instead for a more relaxed final-final dip in the calm waters off our favorite beach.  From the ramparts of the fortress I could see them playing on the rocky shore more than 100 feet below, and thought to myself, if they were a besieging army they wouldn’t stand a chance.
