De-masted

Day 37 – 8.5.2018

Our first week in Annapolis is sailing by rather quickly- boat projects, playgrounds, the library, grocery shopping and laundry fill our days.  The mast was successfully pulled on Monday, after which we motored from Jabin’s Boat Yard on Back Creek up to Spa Creek and the heart of Annapolis.  We putted right under the bridge with a few inches to spare above our radar mast, or so it seemed (always a nerve racking event), and after a few tense seconds of docking chaos (as is normal for the SVSR) pulled into slip M12 at the South Annapolis Yacht Center. It’s an ok marina, perhaps a little dated, but with a free laundry machine and the location can’t be beat, for this price at least.  The price, however, is twice what we paid in Baltimore- but even so, it is only half of what the fancy place across the bridge in downtown is charging.  We feel close to freedom, we feel like a bird who’s wings are about to be loosed- give us a mast, some rigging and a sound set of sails and the world is ours!
