The West Coast

CHAPTER 13

The west coast of New Zealand has some of the country’s most amazing sights.  Looping back north from Invercargill, we took the dead end road to Milford Sound, a place you will see on any post card or tourist advertisement if you go to NZ, and then passing through Queenstown again, and its little sister Wanaka, we crossed over the Southern Alps.  The only road on this side of the island goes pretty much straight north, and is sandwiched between the steep mountains and the crashing waves of the Tasman Sea.  There few towns, but many sights to see- my favorite being the massive blue face of Fox Glacier, where we were lucky enough to whiteness a huge piece of ice, maybe the size of a five story building, break off and crash to the ground below in an ear deafening explosion.
