CHAPTER 23
Sydney is one of those places that you can’t get enough of. No matter how many times you walk the through the canyons of tall buildings downtown, or sit with a beer at a waterfront café admiring the Opera House, or take the ferry across tranquil waters to one of the quaint suburbs, or slowly stroll across the Harbour Bridge, it always feels fresh, it always feels like you just arrived and you can’t help but crack a smile and wonder at the beauty of it all.
We would only be here for one week, so we hit the ground running. From the apartment we rented in the energetic Kings Cross neighborhood, we fanned out over the city, walking, riding the bus, the metro, the ferries- we turned Sydney from a sprawling metropolis, into our own personal backyard: where’s the best place to get a drink near Government House? Easy, the Opera Bar. Who makes the tastiest macaroons in town? Zumbo, of course. Why should you never take your kids to McDonalds in Kings Cross after 9pm? That one you’ll have to find out for yourself!
