CHAPTER 3

Day two of the christening weekend started off bright and early at 8am with the first of several harbor tours aboard the Saint Robert.  There is not much to write about doing five slow laps of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, so instead, for posterity’s sake, I am going to post a copy of the email that was sent out with the Schedule of Events for all the guests attending the Christening:

The teak has been polished, the brass has been shined, the deck has been swabbed and the lines have been coiled- we are getting very close to party time!  So let the countdown begin- only one month to go to the grandest boat christening of the year! 

We hope everyone’s travel plans are coming together, and to help out we wanted to pass along some of the fine details for the party weekend that we have finally hammered out…

Friday, May 23^rd

The Great Beer Exchange

8pm – 10pm – Smaltimore- 2522 Fait Ave. in Canton  Map

To break the ice for the celebratory weekend, we will be hanging out at Smaltimore for some good ol’ supply and demand beer drinking.  Here is how it works: prices on beers are based on real-time sales, updated every 30 seconds. The laws of supply and demand dictate how much each beer costs. The more pints of beer X that are sold the higher the price goes and the price of beer Y and Z goes down respectively. There are periodic “market crashes” where all the beers prices “crash” to an all time low for a designated amount of time.

If your travel itinerary puts you in Charm City by Friday evening, come join us for a pint or two and a little insider trading!

Saturday, May 24^th

World Famous Baltimore Harbor Tour aboard the Saint Robert

Experience the sights and sounds of Baltimore the way it was meant to be- from the water!  Fells Point, the Inner Harbor, the Domino Sugar Factory, Federal Hill, and perhaps even Fort McHenry if time permits, the inspiration for our nation’s national anthem.

• Beverages, life jackets and interesting historical commentary are provided complimentary.
• First voyage casts off at 8am from the Lighthouse Point Marina, followed every 2hrs after that with the last voyage leaving at 2pm.
• We are able to accommodate up to eight passengers per voyage.  Signup for each 2hr time slot is on a first come basis.  To reserve your spot, for you or your group, please email the captain at: harbortour@thegoodshipsaintrobert.com
• Please plan to arrive at the marina gate promptly at your allotted reservation time.

Admiral’s Happy Hour

7pm – DogWatch Tavern- 709 S. Broadway in Fells Point Map

Come eat and drink were the real sailors do- the DogWatch Tavern has a long tradition of catering to the nautical minded soul of Baltimore’s busy harbor- it is the preferred pub of off duty water-taxi skippers!  Enjoy unique fare whipped up special for the guests of the Saint Robert, or order off the “never a letdown” regular menu.  If you can’t make it for dinner or have already indulged at a different location, stop by for a pint of Loose Cannon, or a Jolly Roger Jello shot.  But put your clogs on, because this one is going to be Dutch treat!

Sunday, May 25^th

Saint Robert Christening

Lighthouse Point Marina aboard the Saint Robert- Nautical attire recommended

High noon- Let the party start!  Drinks, music and tours of the boat.

12:30pm – Lunch is served– preview of selections from the menu:

• Captain D’s famous slow and low shredded brisket sliders
• Insalata di Ammiraglio- flash boiled fusilli pasta, vine ripened cherry tomatoes, fresh sweet summer basil, Mt. Nebo olives, Vidalia onions, and other seasonal ingredients
• Ali Baba twice baked barbeque legumes, pre-soaked in National Bohemian Pilsner, the pride of Baltimore
• Selection of choice fried crispy potatoes, baked maize chips, and a variety of complementary dipping sauces

2pm– Christening Ceremony

In the time honored tradition of the sea, we will call on Neptune, Poseidon, and all other omnipresent authorities to purge the nautical records of the former name of the ship, and formally bestow a new and better name upon her, for all the wind and waves and monsters of the ocean deep to know and respect.

2:30pm– Dockside merrymaking continues

As the day roles on, it is everyone’s responsibility to watch out for wobbly legged crew who might topple off the dock.  Lets all keep the drinks in the sailors, and the sailors out of the drink!

6pm or when the drinks run out- Christening is officially complete- Final nod to Neptune and Bon Voyage!

*Please Note: No contingencies for the weather are available.  A boat christening must, by definition, take place on the boat, therefore, please be prepared for inclement weather and pack accordingly.  If things get really wet or cold, all hands will be provided two drams of the ship’s whiskey to warm up.

Monday, May 26^th

The Longboat Brunch

10am to 12pm- Lighthouse Point Marina aboard the Saint Robert

For those lucky guests still in town, all are invited to a casual open-house style light brunch.
